The Long and Winding Blog

23 10 2006

So I haven’t updated lately mostly because I am a lazy blog slug. Last week I had mid-terms both of my classes last week, and that was particularly stressful in my Thursday class because that test was 50% of my grade for the SEMESTER (the other 50% being the Final exam). Those are over with and I will find out tonight and Thursday what I made.

This Friday I am leaving to GO ON VACATION!! I don’t want you to misunderstand me and think I’m not SUPER-PSYCHED (I mean I have to be I’m capitalizing like a mad fiend) because I AM! Early Friday morning (the earlier the better I say) Laura and I are leaving to go to Asheville, NC until Monday. This will be our first real trip since the honeymoon last year and we are both very much looking forward to getting away. We are going to visit the Biltmore, Drink Beer at Barley’s, and whatever else might suit our fancy. It’s going to be FANTASTIC.

And now for the movie review I have been meaning to give you for two weeks now:

The Deaparted…GO SEE IT IMMEDIATELY!!

The Departed has a fantastic ensemble cast that includes: Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin, Mark Wahlberg, and Vera Farmigia (The Manchurian Candidate). This movie is wonderfully sinister and filled with the kind of Scorsese based grittiness you have come to expect. From the cinematography to the great “Bah-stan” accents this movie delivers mob violence at its finest. I urge you to drop what you are doing and see this movie in the theaters RIGHT NOW (even if you do have silly movie rules…I’m talking to you Miller). I don’t want to get into plot points or all of what I thought was so good about it because I don’t want to spoil anything, but if you’ve never taken my advice on anything before this (mostly movies and music)…TRUST me on this one, if you like mob movies, and the people listed above you owe it to yourself to go see it ASAP!!

That’s all I’ve got for now kids. More to come this week before I leave.

Waiting on the World to Change

Waiting On The World To Change

Lyrics: John Mayer

me and all my friends
we’re all misunderstood
they say we stand for nothing and
there’s no way we ever could
now we see everything that’s going wrong
with the world and those who lead it
we just feel like we don’t have the means
to rise above and beat it

so we keep waiting
waiting on the world to change
we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change

it’s hard to beat the system
when we’re standing at a distance
so we keep waiting
waiting on the world to change
now if we had the power
to bring our neighbors home from war
they would have never missed a Christmas
no more ribbons on their door
and when you trust your television
what you get is what you got
cause when they own the information, oh
they can bend it all they want

that’s why we’re waiting
waiting on the world to change
we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change

it’s not that we don’t care,
we just know that the fight ain’t fair
so we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change

and we’re still waiting
waiting on the world to change
we keep on waiting waiting on the world to change
one day our generation
is gonna rule the population
so we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change

we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change

I couldn’t have said it better myself. You see things around the world like wars, famine, nuclear weapons tests, scandals in the government, innocent murders, the list goes on…and we wonder “when is it going to stop” or “what can I do to fix it that will work”…do we wait for the world to change? do we band together? something has to give. I don’t have the answer but I, like the rest of you, am plagued by the problems.

3 Awesome People

I’ve mentioned before in passing the blogs of various friends of mine (some you know, some you don’t). I wanted to take just a minute (like right now) to remind you of their blogs and encourage you to add them to your “daily reads” list. Like the rest of us they are fallable and dont’ post every single day, but their thoughts and insights make the world a better place. Check them out.

And finally, I have a REALLY BIG blog coming your way very soon (by “REALLY BIG” I think I mostly mean pictures), but until I get a chance to get them in the computer and loaded up and ready for public consumption you need to make sure you click on the link below and enjoy the hilariousness that ensues (a special thanks to Mrs. H for this one).
